K2CM PARTNERS WITH THE BORO
The small company you’d never heard of developing the region’s biggest investment – K2CM is making a big impression and partnering with Middlesbrough FC to shout about it!
K2 Construction Management (K2CM) has made a significant impact on the UK construction scene, particularly in Teesside. Though it entered the region three years ago with a modest profile, K2CM is now leading Teesside’s largest investment project, the SeAH Wind factory at Teesworks. This offshore wind facility is the largest of its kind worldwide and symbolises K2CM’s commitment to projects with lasting benefits for the local economy and community.
For the past two seasons, K2CM have taken up several advertising opportunities throughout the stadium including the LED boards, the big screen and on the concourse TVs to promote their work in the region and are often seen with clients in hospitality lounges.
Our SeAH Wind scheme is currently supporting over 1,000 jobs on the South Bank site and we pride oursleves on utilising the local supply chain at every turn. In fact, K2CM count on several fellow Boro company patrons and fans to help deliver the massive facility. Other businesses employed by K2CM on the SeAH site include Applebridge, Midas Cladding, Barrier Group, TCC, LJJ, TIS Scaffold, LV Shipping and Meldrum to name but a few.
Building on Global Expertise
K2CM may have been new to Teesside, but it arrived with a wealth of experience across sectors like healthcare, automotive, and residential. Founded in 2001, K2CM gained a reputation for effective construction management, planning, and delivery. In 2019, a South Korean industry leader, Hanmi Global, acquired a majority stake, helping expand its reach and expertise.
The Teesside project is managed by David Gardner, a 30-year industry veteran, and supported by Kathryn Gardner, Project Director, who previously led significant local infrastructure projects like the £109 million South Bank Quay. In tandem with their newly and locally sourced consultancy team they bring a formidable combination of regional knowledge and project experience to K2CM’s operations.
James Grant, K2CM’s Head of ESG & Corporate Relations, further supports this focus on regional ties. With a background at Teesside Airport and the Tees Valley Combined Authority, James has enhanced K2CM’s community-driven reputation. His leadership in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives shapes K2CM’s business model, reflecting the company’s investment in local communities and its dedication to sustainable construction practices.
Building Teesside with Teesside
The SeAH Wind project goes beyond conventional construction goals; K2CM has structured the project to benefit Teesside’s workforce and supply chain. Its construction management model fast-tracks development by overlapping design and procurement phases, resulting in a quicker, more cost-effective build. Since breaking ground in July 2022, the K2CM team, led by Site Director Glenn Forbes, has completed nearly 90% of the project, prioritising local talent and resources.
At present, of the 1,000 workers that are on-site, 76% reside within 40 miles, with 54% living within 10 miles. Local firms, including Severfield, who installed 35,000 tonnes of steel, and Teesworks Cladding, handling 160,000 sq m of cladding, have played critical roles, with MGL Group’s Rainton Construction and Middlesbrough’s Applebridge providing 300,000 m³ of concrete - enough to fill 124 Olympic pools.
Beyond the construction site, K2CM has also partnered with Middlesbrough College to support scholarships and STEM programmes, and it actively champions women in construction and emerging female leaders through employee engagement in groups like CENE and NAWIC. The company has also funded grassroots sports and transformed a dilapidated ice cream parlour into an outreach centre for The Link Charitable Trust in Redcar, reinforcing their commitment to the community.
