Delivering Clean Energy to 1m Homes
About the
Project

Critical Transmission Package

The ESI Onshore Transmission Package, forming part of Project Seagreen, is a critical element in the delivery of the 1.075GW offshore windfarm. On completion, it will deliver clean energy to the national grid, reaching approximately 1.6M homes across the country.

It involves major groundworks along a 19km route. The package involves multiple key landowners, from world famous Carnoustie Golf Links to government bodies and major agricultural suppliers to the UK food industry.

K2 are playing a key role in supporting the client’s PM team through managing the contractor, undertaking risk management and tracking programme delivery. K2 have actively managed multiple risks on the project – from the management of biosecurity protocols, interfacing with drainage teams and managing utility interfaces along the cable route.

Complex Interfaces

There are unique challenges – a product of interfacing with 42 different landowners – including an essential communications and landowner liaison piece that K2 feed into. K2 are also managing key interfaces between substation, utilities and legal agreements with existing landowners. Cable route crossings with Scottish Gas Networks and SSE Power Distribution have posed major risks which K2 have managed and accelerated progress over the course of the project.

Valued Project Management

We work closely with the client and coordinate with the principal contractor to provide a valued project management service. K2 have enabled greater transparency in work activities, working with the contractor to deliver a clear understanding of risks and progress in each section of the works.

K2 have provided benefits elsewhere on the project. We have streamlined internal design processes by proposing the use of focused design workshops to bring designs to accepted construction issue. Working with the client’s sub-consultants, we have kickstarted a drainage progress report to ensure clarity on the status of each field’s irrigation systems. K2 have also accelerated interface issues by working with Scottish Gas Networks and SSE Power Distribution.
